Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi)
$24.99
Brilliant red cherry shrimp that command attention in planted tanks. These Neocaridina are beginner-friendly, adaptable to varied water conditions, and captivating to observe as they forage and breed. Females molt and release pheromones to signal readiness, then guard eggs under their tail until shrimplets emerge. Shrimp molt frequently—especially after introduction to new tanks—so provide mineral sources like cuttlebone or mineral balls to support exoskeleton regeneration.
Keep them in invertebrate-only setups; their small size makes them prey for most fish, and fry are vulnerable to predation. They thrive in colonies rather than alone, living one to two years. Plan 3–12 months before adding fish to allow a generation of babies to mature and establish a stable population.
Our domestically bred cherry shrimp outperform imported stock significantly. Avoid mixing color variants, as offspring will revert to wild-type brown or clear. Choose one strain and build your colony with confidence.
